We transformed a quintessential “Michigan basement” into a light-filled living space.
Jackson Basement Refreshed
Project Synthesis
Before
Challenge: Many Michigan basements are dark, seemingly forgotten places that end up becoming de facto storage unit, and this basement in Jackson was no exception! The client came to us because they wanted to maximize their below-ground square footage. While there was an existing kitchenette and bedroom, both of these elements were drab and far from ideal for daily use.
Solution: Working with the client, we developed a project scope that would transform the basement into elegant additional living space. Our work included:
Ceiling Transformation: We exposed the ceiling, cleaned up the wiring, painted the exposed joists with a 2-hour fireblock product, and then painted all the exposed elements matte black.
Egress Window & New Flooring: By adding an egress window and high-quality LVP flooring, we brought light and warmth to a space that had been uninviting.
Bedroom & Kitchenette Refresh: We reconfigured the layout of the bedroom to maximize the space. And in the kitchenette, we installed new cabinets and countertops to match the elevated look of the rest of the space.
